An important innovator for University of Illinois Athletics was retired associate athletic director and coach Karol Khars. Khars began as a coach for women’s athletics and coached basketball, softball and volleyball. After the passing of Title IX in 1972 Khars also became a pioneer for women’s sports all across the country, including getting women’s sports in the Big 10. Khars was elected into the Illinois Athletics Hall of Fame in 2017.
